About the Legacy of Leadership Golf Classic

Helena is a wonderful young woman who has struggled through one of the hardest things possible in life. At a young age Helena was sexually abused by someone close to her. This was a devastating moment both for her and her family. They had a long road to walk from victim to survivor. It was through the help of Innovative Alternatives, Inc. that Helena was able to find her voice and speak out against the terrible thing that had happened to her.

Since finding her voice Helena has gotten involved in the community. She has taken parts in local theater and large theater productions making her voice heard. Recently she has taken up writing a children’s book aiding other children in finding their own voices and speaking out against the pain and heartache of childhood abuse.

Victim Assistance Programs

One in three girls and one in six boys are sexually abused before they turn 18 years of age by someone they know! These are reported cases only! Many more children are prevented from reporting the crimes committed against them, making the real numbers so much higher, especially  for boys!  Our counselors see these children face-to-face every day and do our best to help them recover! For over 2 decades, Innovative Alternatives, Inc.’s Victim Assistance Program has served between 850 and 2,000 victims of crime annually. Almost half are sexually or physically abused children, many are adults abused as children as well as numerous other crimes—up to an including family members of homicide victims! IA provides up to 6 months of FREE counseling & many other services to assist in healing and recovery from violent crimes. We receive funding on a Victim of Crime Act grant from the Office of the Governor-Criminal Justice Division, but every year IA must raise a minimum of $167,217 in order to keep this $668,839 grant coming! When you PLAY GOLF, you assist our clients in their difficult journeys from ‘Victims’ to ‘Survivors’ to ‘Victors!’ –It is not a game for them, but we want you to have fun helping them! Our kids need and deserve compassion, nurturing and safety!
